The renovations to the building didn't stop when The Grand Theater reopened in 2015 - there are several other projects in planning to improve the buildings efficiency and our patrons' comfort and safety.  In late March of 2019 the front entry doors are being replaced!  The new doors will improve energy efficiency, building security, operations functionality and give the entire Robinson Street façade a more cohesive appearance, very similar to the look when the building first opened in 1928.  A major grant from the Pella Rolscreen Foundation along with other smaller donations, as well as a portion of revenues from theater operations, enabled the Grand Theater to launch this project.

DAILY TRIVIA CONTEST

Although the theater is temporarily closed, we're offering a daily diversion:

a trivia contest with prizes!

The Grand Opera House began it's life on Marion Street, just northwest of the Downtown Square across from the present day True Value Hardware. Admittedly, it wasn't much to look at from the outside, but the sumptuous interior was outfitted with everything a traveling troupe could want to put on a truly brilliant spectacle! At over 700 seats, it compared favorably to venues in Chicago, St. Louis, and other large Midwestern destinations.
Dear Valued Guest,

Just like you, we are closely monitoring new developments regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus). The health and safety of our guests, employees and volunteers is of the utmost importance.

We are following recommendations of governmental health agencies, such as the Center for Disease Control (CDC), state and local health organizations, and we have further elevated our usual standards of cleanliness and health safety even higher.  Here are some examples of what we are doing:
  • Disinfecting high-touch hard surfaces throughout the theater multiple times during each screening such as door handles, counters, handrails and faucets.
  • Enhancing deep cleaning every night in both theaters, including armrests and cup holders.
  • Educating our staff and volunteers on COVID-19 symptoms as well as preventative measures including instructing them to wash their hands often throughout each shift - this has been proven by the CDC to be the most effective preventative measure
  • We are conforming to CDC recommendations and limiting attendance in each auditorium to no more 50 people.
Also we are blocking off certain seats in order to spread patrons across the auditoriums to allow for ample space between parties.   Please respect these restrictions.

We recommend that those patrons, staff and volunteers who are not feeling well to stay home to prevent the spread of germs.

There is no denying that COVID-19 will impact our community.  Rest assured, the Grand Theater will comply with governmental health agencies and is taking the proper precautions as this situation evolves.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this unusual time.  The Grand Theater remains committed to offering you a
safe and enjoyable entertainment environment.
